ABOUT THE DOCUMENTARY PROJECT

For Those To Come takes on the task of unearthing the fight and strategies of communities combating the climate crises that threaten the livelihood of the people living in Puerto Rico. This documentary project is as much of a love letter, as it is a wake-up call, for Puerto Rico y su gente. While the wrath of climate change and political infrastructures attempts to cast a shadow over the islands’ future, solutions-driven and people centered projects and advocacy campaigns – often led by women - continue transcending any government intervention or systems.

Por Los Que Vienen asume la tarea de desenterrar la lucha y las estrategias de las comunidades que combaten las crisis climáticas que amenazan el sustento de las personas que viven en Puerto Rico. Este proyecto documental es tanto una carta de amor como una llamada de atención para Puerto Rico y su gente. Si bien la ira del cambio climático y las infraestructuras políticas intentan ensombrecer el futuro de las islas, los proyectos y las campañas de promoción impulsados por soluciones y centrados en las personas, a menudo dirigidos por mujeres, continúan trascendiendo cualquier intervención o sistema gubernamental.

This story is driven by the narratives of people that embody a historic practice of resistance in their work. Hernaliz, Marissa and Anabella are a few of a long list of women that are leading examples of the spirit of those living in the archipelago: a testament to their ancestors and history; a refusal to be victims of circumstance. Instead, these women are fierce protectors confronting government neglect, displacement and, ultimately, US imperialism and colonialism.
